Role of Bank PO


A Bank Probationary Officer (PO) is a post occupied in a bank. It is the starting level position for all officers employed in a bank. This is a job that is open to anyone who has the right qualifications. The term Probationary obviously refers to the period for which the employee holds the post, after which he or she is promoted to a more general position as officer.

The tasks usually given to a Bank Probationary officer can include anything. Certain examples might be General Banking, administrative work and or any other work assigned by the Bank from time to time. It is only after a Bank Probationary officer is promoted to a higher post that they get routine work like posting, scrolling or advances or anything that is related to banking. Even in this position, any officer is working under the Sr. Manager and must be directed by his superiors.
While working as a Bank Probationary officer a person is basically prepared to manage the usual duties of any bank officer, such as accounting, marketing, finance, investment as well as billing. As a result, it is necessary that one try to understand the work and make the most of the exposure when working as a Bank Probationary Officer.
As the post of a Bank Probationary officer mainly for the purpose of training, they might be given jobs in all the various departments that are integrated into a bank. These may include the mortgage and finance divisions and the Loan Department. As such the Bank Probationary Officer is also expected to bring some positive development into the workings of the bank. They are also responsible for handling customer complaints and disputes. These skills come in handy as once promoted, a Bank Probationary Officer’s job involves Customer Care. As such, for these purposes, a Bank Probationary Officer must be resourceful and have good communication skills and the ability to handle difficult situations in a calm and composed fashion.
Once a Bank Probationary Officer is promoted, he directly becomes an Assistant Manager. In that capacity he has to carry out daily customer transactions like Draft issuance, cash management and passing of cheques. After a certain period in this position, having garnered experience, the employee can then go on to other fields such as  planning, marketing, budgeting, processing of loan , investment management etc.
Bank Probationary Officers are recruited by the Banking Service Recruitment Board. The tests for more banks are similar and they test the candidates in fields such as English Language – Comprehension, Completion Sentences, Synonyms And Antonyms, Test of Reasoning – Verbal, Non-Verbal, Logical Reasoning, Analytical Reasoning, Arithmetic Ability, General Awareness – General Knowledge, Current Affairs and Computer Literacy – Basic and fundamental of Computers. It is also necessary to be able to tackle the paper with good speed. The general eligibility for the post of Bank Probationary Officer in Indian banks is a Degree from a recognized University or equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Government of India. The candidate has to be at least 21 years of age, and not less than 30.
